I am a mom of three who struggled for years trying to find a solution to help my middle child with her language based learning challenges. Along the way we spent a fortune tutoring 1 to 2 times a week just to keep up. I knew my daughter was smart, there were just some areas where she struggled. After doing some online research I found a program called PACE (Processing and Cognitive Enhancement). Eager to have my daughter participate I was frustrated again that it wasn't offered anywhere near me. I decided to go through training so that I could be the first in the Metro New Orleans area to practice the PACE method. I'm excited at the opportunity to help children and adults achieve an easier, faster, better way to learn and succeed.
We begin with a cognitive skills assessment, which shows us the core cognitive skills of the client. This information is gathered through the Gibson Test of Cognitive Skills. This battery of short tests reviews auditory processing, word attack, logic and reasoning, working memory, processing speed, visual processing and long-term memory.
A consult overviews the root cause of cognitive skill development and differentiates between that and symptom management of dysfunctional learning techniques, which is far more common in standard group educational settings. We review the assessment results and recommend a program that is properly suited to the needs of the client.
We employ a customized, one-on-one, cutting-edge educational practice that addresses and fixes learning struggles at their root cause. We do not manage symptoms to maintain a classroom cohesion but rather focus on the shortcomings of cognitive processing that inhibit all learning. It's brain training that will improve weak cognitive skills for lasting results.
Developed over 30 years ago by a multidisciplinary team, based on the best current scientific research PACE quickly and significantly builds those underlying mental skills that are vital to academic and life success. PACE targets and trains those weak cognitive skills that are most likely to have a meaningful impact on a persons learning and work performance. These skills include attention and concentration, memory, processing speed, problem solving, visual processing, phonetic awareness and comprehension.
Master the Code (MTC) is a revolutionary "sound-to-code" reading program modeled after the process by which spoken language is first learned. Students are averaging over four years of reading skill improved in less than five months. MTC is designed to integrate with and build upon the PACE cognitive skills enhancement program. Studies suggest that as many as 85% of students testing low on reading proficiency also have weak underlying cognitive skills in particular auditory processing skills.
